As our International Women’s Day 2020 interview series continues, we interview Jamie Earlam, Head of Marketing at fashion brand Mr. Start.

Side by side with… Mr. Start

Don’t let the ‘Mr.’ title fool you — one of the driving forces behind men’s fashion label and East London fashion institution Mr. Start is Designer and Marketer Jamie Earlam.

Where did your big idea come from?

I started working for Philip about 18 months ago. Mr. Start is a fantastic, well-established brand but it was slightly behind the times and was one of the best-kept secrets in Shoreditch. I shook [the marketing] up a bit — recreated the website, worked on our photography, launched seasonal campaigns, and got us back on the map!

How are you changing the world?

I think we are pushing boundaries with our partnerships, and bringing a modern edge to classic tailoring.

What we do at Mr. Start is really niche, and there’s a reason people love it. I like to think I’m pushing the brand to the next level, and breaking into a bigger market (more on that in a bit). We are the original designers of the contemporary suit — modern city dressing is where menswear is going, and we have been experts at this way before anyone clocked on. It’s everywhere now, of course, but we started it!

So what’s next for you?

We’re going to be launching Mr. Start for Women very shortly — a strong capsule collection of the essential pieces every woman needs in her wardrobe.

What work have you done to date?

With Buzzbar? Everything. Most recently our SS20 campaign, and a re-jig of our website — excited for what the rest of the year brings!
